East Neuk of Fife
The old fishing coast of Fife — harbours, links, beaches and long light evenings, at the door of Incharvie and the Bothy at Lahil.
Food
The East Neuk’s fishing harbours — Pittenweem, Anstruther, St Monans and Crail — still land the shellfish and white fish that fill its smokehouses and restaurants. Fish and chips on the harbour wall at Anstruther, a crab sandwich at Crail, a table at the Ship Inn at Elie with the bay in front of you.
Golf
St Andrews, the Home of Golf, is around half an hour away. Between here and there lie Dumbarnie Links, the Golf House Club at Elie, Lundin Links, Kingsbarns and Crail — a lifetime of links for a long weekend.
Coast
The Fife Coastal Path runs the length of the East Neuk, past fishing villages, ruined castles and long sandy bays. At Elie, a wood-fired sauna stands on the sand beside the harbour — the best way to begin or end a day.
Roe stalking
Stalking has been part of estate life here for generations — an early start, frost still on the grass, and the ground the Lindsays have managed since the fifteenth century laid out below you. It is less a sport than an old habit of paying close attention to this land, passed from stalker to stalker the way the title once passed from Lord to Lord.
It is active conservation too. Roe numbers across Scotland have grown well beyond what the woodland can carry, and NatureScot now runs incentive schemes that pay qualified stalkers for deer taken to protect new planting and support the country’s wider biodiversity targets — work our own stalker carries out on the estate year-round.
Guests staying at Incharvie can join a morning’s stalking on around 20 dates a year, out with the estate’s stalker, for £500 per stay — added automatically if you choose it when you check your dates.
