Incharvie
A Victorian farmhouse at the heart of the Lindsay estate, sensitively restored and hung with pieces from the family’s own collection. Built for time with family and friends.
Two double bedrooms in Inverie, a short walk from the Old Forge — the most remote pub on the British mainland — and set among some of the finest walking in Scotland.
Scotters sleeps four in two double bedrooms — a small, comfortable base for two couples or a family, and the kind of house you settle into rather than pass through.
Knoydart is often called Britain’s last great wilderness. It has no road connection to the rest of the country: you arrive by boat from Mallaig, or on foot over the hills. Inverie is its only village, with the Old Forge — recognised by Guinness World Records as the most remote pub on the British mainland — the pier, and a handful of shops and cafés.
From the door, tracks lead into the Rough Bounds: the path to Ladhar Bheinn, coastal walks around Inverie Bay and Loch Nevis, long empty beaches, and hills where red deer and sea eagles are a matter of course.
Drive to Mallaig through the scenic “Road to the Isles” — or take the train to Fort William and on to Mallaig — and catch the ferry to Inverie Pier from Mallaig Pier. The crossing is run by Western Isles Cruises, who recommend booking in advance. Scotters is close to the pier and the Old Forge.
Glaschoille lies two miles along the bay. Book the two together and the family’s Knoydart houses sleep fifteen.

A two-bedroom bothy on the Fife coast, close to the family’s seat at Lahill — near enough to Incharvie to take both for a larger gathering.

An unspoilt retreat on the shore of Loch Nevis, with a wartime past as a secret SOE training school. Six bedrooms, sleeping eleven, reached by ferry from Mallaig.
